All my life’s a circle, sunrise and sundown.
The moon rolls through the night time til the day break comes around.
All my life’s a circle but I can’t tell you why.
The seasons spinning round again the years keep rolling by.
The human mandala or humandala series of drawings all start with a real or fictional person, or sometimes just a face, at the center of the circle. The mandalas range from fairytale, book and tv characters, musicians and feminist icons, too.
I have always been drawn to strong female characters and especially superheros because there are so few of them. One of my first designs in the empowered women series was created to be used as a protest poster at the women’s march in January 2017. My femandala or womandala mandalas keep growing to include legendary powerful and fictional female icons with stories to tell and important messages to share.
I also enjoy creating personalized mandalas that include important dates, symbols, colors and images that are meaningful to a specific person. The mandalas can include hints of the person’s hobbies, interests or career; their astrological sign and birthday; symbols that represent their religious or spiritual beliefs; favorite colors, patterns and animals. The drawings can be just as unique as the person, their fingerprint or autograph.
There are so many different ways you can go with the elements and it’s always interesting to see what happens when you pull them together. And just as it is with real people, the vibe can shift based on the traits and characteristics you choose to emphasize or highlight.
